Welcome to Volume 4 of our Q&A Employee Spotlight series, where we delve into the lives and experiences of the remarkable individuals that make up our team. In this edition, we have the privilege of introducing you to Elmer Receno – Office Services Clerk & Records Management Coordinator. We’ll discover the motivations that led Elmer to embark on a career in the legal field while also gaining insight into his personal interests.
Q: What initially drew you to the legal industry as a career?
A: I found my way into the legal field somewhat unexpectedly. My background was originally in the education industry, where I managed an IT school in the Philippines before relocating to Canada in 2007. My initial job in Canada was at Electronic Arts (EA) through a third-party contractor, Ricoh. After about a year, I began working for a law firm in downtown Vancouver and from there, I transitioned between different law firms until I landed the opportunity to join Boughton in 2015.
Q: What does success look like in your role?
A: In the Office Services and Records Management departments, there are various responsibilities to handle. These include managing the courier desk, ensuring a steady supply of office materials, maintaining office equipment, performing copying and scanning tasks, as well as handling file closing and retrieval, among other duties. It’s gratifying to provide assistance to anyone within the firm, regardless of the task’s size. Each day, we find satisfaction in our ability to help and contribute to the success of the organization.
Q: If you weren’t in the legal industry, what would be your dream job?
A: I would likely work in the IT field, specializing in web design or application development.
Q: What does a perfect Saturday for you look like?
A: A perfect Saturday for me is a family day spent with my wife and 9-year-old daughter. Whether it’s a relaxing day in the park, a fun movie outing, a visit to the beach, a cruise adventure, or any place that we all enjoy, it’s about cherishing quality time together.
