Luca Citton, President of Boughton Law and Chair of the Board for Meritas®, recently attended the 2025 Meritas Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mexico City. Hosted by Cuesta Campos, the event brought together leaders from over 100 member firms worldwide to explore the future of law, the evolving needs of clients, and how collaboration across borders can drive innovative legal service delivery.
In a lighthearted moment that captured the spirit of connection and cultural immersion, Citton even stepped into the ring and wrestled with two luchadores during one of the AGM’s social events—proving that leadership sometimes means jumping into the action, quite literally.
Keynote Focus: What Volatility Means for Clients
The AGM opened with a powerful keynote by Jordan Furlong of Law21, titled “The Year of Volatility: The Future of the Profession.” Furlong addressed the growing pressures facing legal clients today—technological disruption, economic uncertainty, and global instability—and challenged law firms to rethink how they deliver value.
“As the pace of change accelerates, our clients are navigating unprecedented levels of complexity,” said Citton. “The keynote made it clear: to remain relevant, law firms must focus on what matters most to clients—agility, clarity, and forward-thinking advice.”
Furlong’s insights provided a roadmap for firms to future-proof their service models by embracing innovation, building stronger relationships, and understanding how generative AI and other technologies are reshaping expectations in the legal profession.
Delivering Value Through Global Collaboration
Following the keynote, Citton and Meritas President Sona Pancholy led the network’s business update, highlighting member feedback from the recent survey, the launch of the new Brand Ambassador program, and continued efforts to deepen engagement across regions.
“Boughton Law’s role in Meritas gives our clients seamless access to trusted counsel around the world,” Citton emphasized. “This network is more than a referral source—it’s a strategic advantage for businesses that operate across borders or face complex, multi-jurisdictional challenges.”
Boughton Law shareholders Jim Coady and Justin Park also took part in the AGM as panelists, offering insights on doing business in Canada and contributing to cross-border legal discussions shaping the network’s strategic direction.
Sessions throughout the AGM focused on strategies for mid-sized firms to remain competitive, including how to enhance client experience, adapt to regulatory shifts, and implement meaningful technological change. Other panels explored practical approaches to law firm leadership, service delivery, and cross-cultural collaboration.
How This Shapes the Way We Serve Clients
For clients, the value of Meritas lies in the strength of its global partnerships and the shared commitment to excellence. The AGM reinforced that success in today’s legal environment is not just about legal knowledge—it’s about responsiveness, innovation, and understanding the pressures clients face.
“Our clients are asking bigger questions and demanding deeper insights,” said Citton. “At Boughton Law, we’re answering that call by working collaboratively with top firms worldwide to deliver smarter, more connected legal solutions.”
