Chelsea is an associate in our Corporate Group. She joined Boughton Law in 2022 as a summer student, completed her articles with the firm and became an associate lawyer in 2024.
Her practice focuses on advising clients throughout all stages of a company’s lifecycle including: incorporation, corporate restructuring and reorganizations, shareholder agreements, restorations, company governance, directors’ and shareholders’ rights and liabilities, and regulatory compliance. She has also assisted across a wide range of commercial transactions with a focus on business mergers and acquisitions. She supports clients in due diligence, legal research, and the review and drafting of commercial contracts and other key agreements.
Chelsea is also committed to First Nation economic development and assists First Nation clients with achieving economic prosperity through strategic legal planning and the revitalization of their Indigenous legal frameworks. Her Aboriginal Law practice spans across diverse sectors including First Nations rights, First Nations governance (developing internal governance laws and land and taxation laws), tax efficient corporate structuring, and real estate transactions on First Nations lands. She is passionate about protecting and advancing the rights of First Nations through self-determined business opportunities and self-determined laws to drive sustainable economic growth.
Prior to joining Boughton, Chelsea was a court clerk at the B.C. Supreme Court. She obtained her Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Peter A. Allard School of Law with a dual-specialization in Business law and Aboriginal Law. Chelsea also holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia with a double major in First Nations and Indigenous Studies; and Gender, Race, and Social Justice.
She is the recipient of UBC’s first Lieutenant Governor’s Medal for Democracy, Inclusion, and Reconciliation (2019); UBC Premier and Undergraduate Award (2019); Wesbrook Scholar (2019); Hilda Janzen Memorial Award in Feminist Legal Studies (2020); the CBABC Aboriginal Lawyers Forum Student Appreciation Award (2022).
Chelsea is a citizen of the Haida Nation from Skidegate, Haida Gwaii.
